ASTM A182 Alloy Steel Blind Flanges

Tubewell Steel & Engg. Co. manufactures, stocks and supplies alloy steel blind flanges from Mumbai, India in ASTM A182 F5, F9, F11, F22 and F91. A blind flange is a solid, unbored disc that bolts to a mating flange to seal the end of a pipe, valve or vessel nozzle – allowing lines to be isolated, pressure tested or extended later without cutting.

Product Overview

Reliable isolation and closure for chrome-moly piping systems

A blind flange has the same outside diameter, bolt circle and facing as the other flanges of its class, but no bore. Bolted against a weld neck, slip-on or other mating flange with a suitable gasket, it seals the line completely. Because the full system pressure acts across the whole face, blind flanges are among the most highly stressed flange types – especially in larger sizes – which is why material grade, heat treatment and thickness must be correct for the design temperature.

We forge alloy steel blind flanges in ASTM A182 F5, F9, F11, F22 and F91, heat treat them as required and machine them to ASME B16.5, B16.47, MSS SP-44 or EN 1092-1 (Type 05). Raised face, flat face and RTJ facings are available, and blinds can be drilled and tapped for vents, drains or instrument connections, or supplied with lifting lugs. Every piece is PMI-checked, hardness tested and supplied with EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2 certificates.

  • Positive isolation of pipes and nozzles
  • Ideal for hydrotest and future tie-ins
  • RF, FF and RTJ facings, Class 150 – 2500
  • Tapped vent / drain holes on request
  • Spectacle blinds, spacers & paddles
  • Large B16.47 blinds up to 48"

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about alloy steel blind flanges

A blind flange closes the end of a pipe, valve or vessel nozzle. It is used to isolate sections of a line for maintenance, to seal points reserved for future expansion and as a closure during hydrostatic pressure testing.

A blind flange bolts onto the end of a flange to close it. A spectacle blind is a figure-8 plate fitted between two flanges, with one solid end for positive isolation and one open ring for normal flow; it is rotated to switch between the two. Both are available in A182 chrome-moly grades.

Yes. We supply tapped blind flanges with NPT or socket-weld connections for vents, drains, thermowells and pressure gauges, as well as reducing blinds that act as a reducer between a large flange and a smaller outlet.

Weight is calculated from the flange OD, thickness and raised face volume, less the bolt holes, multiplied by the steel density. The chart above shows approximate ASME B16.5 Class 150 and 300 weights; exact weights for other classes and B16.47 sizes are provided with each quotation.
