Product Overview

Chrome-moly tubes engineered for efficient heat transfer at high temperature

Alloy steel heat exchanger tubes are used where process temperature, hydrogen partial pressure or sulphur content rule out carbon steel. Chrome-moly grades keep their strength at elevated temperature and resist hydrogen attack, sulphidation and oxidation, while staying ferritic for good thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion. T11 and T22 are widely used in hydrotreater and reformer exchangers, T5 and T9 in sulphur-bearing refinery streams, and T91 in the most demanding high-temperature duties.

We supply tubes to ASTM A213 / ASME SA213, the current specification for alloy steel heat exchanger tubes, and to ASTM A199 for replacement bundles in older equipment designed to it. Tubes can be supplied cut to exact length, U-bent to TEMA tolerances (with bend-area stress relieving and post-bend hydrotesting when specified), or fitted with high-frequency welded solid or serrated fins. Every tube is traceable to its heat and supplied with EN 10204 3.1 certificates.

  • Exact cut lengths for tube bundles
  • U-bending with bend-area stress relieving
  • Solid & serrated finned tube options
  • Close OD & wall tolerances per A1016
  • 100% hydro or eddy current tested
  • Resistant to hydrogen attack & sulphidation

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about alloy steel heat exchanger tubes

A199 was a specification for seamless cold-drawn intermediate alloy steel heat exchanger and condenser tubes. It has since been withdrawn, and its grades are now covered by A213. We supply A213 tubes and can provide A199 or dual certification for replacement bundles where older designs call for it.

Usually, yes. For chrome-moly grades, the bent portion plus a short straight length is commonly stress relieved, typically when the bend radius is tight or when the purchaser's specification or code requires it. Each U-tube is then hydrotested after bending.

Yes. We supply high-frequency welded solid and serrated (segmented) finned tubes on T11, T22 and other alloy base tubes, with fin height, thickness and pitch to your thermal design, for air coolers, economisers and HRSGs.

The most common sizes are 5/8", 3/4" and 1" OD in 18, 16 and 14 BWG, as listed in TEMA. We stock these sizes in popular chrome-moly grades and cut them to exact bundle lengths.
