ASTM A182 Alloy Steel Weld Neck Flanges

Tubewell Steel & Engg. Co. manufactures, stocks and supplies alloy steel weld neck flanges from Mumbai, India in ASTM A182 F5, F9, F11, F22 and F91. The long tapered hub is butt-welded to the pipe, transferring stress smoothly into the line – making weld neck flanges the first choice for high-pressure, high-temperature and thermally cycling chrome-moly piping.

Product Overview

Why weld neck flanges are preferred for critical chrome-moly lines

A weld neck flange has a long tapered hub that transitions gradually from the flange ring to the pipe wall. The hub end is bevelled and butt-welded to the pipe, so the joint can be fully radiographed and the bore is continuous with the pipe – there is no step to cause turbulence, erosion or crevice corrosion. The reinforcement provided by the hub makes the weld neck the strongest standard flange type and the most resistant to bending, thermal cycling and fatigue.

We forge alloy steel weld neck flanges in ASTM A182 F5, F9, F11, F22 and F91, heat treat them as the specification requires, and CNC machine the bore and bevel to match the exact schedule of the mating A335 pipe. Long weld neck, reducing weld neck and RTJ versions are available, together with B16.47 Series A / B large-diameter flanges. Every piece is PMI-checked, hardness tested and supplied with EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2 certificates.

  • Tapered hub for smooth stress transfer
  • Full-penetration, radiographable butt weld
  • Bore matched to pipe schedule
  • Best for cyclic & high-temperature service
  • RF and RTJ facings, Class 150 – 2500
  • Long weld neck & reducing WN available

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about alloy steel weld neck flanges

A weld neck flange is butt-welded to the pipe and its tapered hub spreads stress into the pipe wall. This gives much higher fatigue strength than a fillet-welded slip-on flange, which is why weld necks are specified for high-pressure, high-temperature and cyclic chrome-moly service.

Please specify material grade (e.g. A182 F22 Cl.3), size, pressure class, facing (RF or RTJ), dimension standard and the bore schedule of the mating pipe, since the bore and weld bevel are machined to match the pipe wall thickness.

Yes. Long weld neck flanges for vessel and column nozzles, reducing weld neck flanges and weld neck orifice flanges can be forged and machined in all A182 chrome-moly grades to customer drawings.

ASME B16.5 covers NPS 1/2" to 24". For 26" to 60", ASME B16.47 applies – Series A (formerly MSS SP-44) or Series B (formerly API 605). We supply alloy weld neck flanges to both series up to 48".
