Product Overview

The high-chrome flange grade for aggressive, high-temperature hydrocarbons

ASTM A182 F9 is a 9% chromium – 1% molybdenum ferritic alloy steel. Its high chromium content gives a dense, adherent oxide layer that withstands sulphur-bearing hydrocarbons and oxidising atmospheres far better than F5 or F22, while molybdenum provides creep strength for continuous duty at elevated temperatures. The added silicon (0.50–1.00%) further improves scaling resistance.

We supply F9 flanges forged from certified material, annealed or normalized and tempered at a minimum of 675°C, then CNC machined to ASME B16.5, B16.47 or EN 1092-1 with bores to suit the mating P9 pipe schedule. Each piece is hardness checked, PMI verified and hard-stamped for traceability, with EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2 certification and third-party inspection available on request.

  • Superior sulphidation & oxidation resistance
  • Service up to approx. 650°C
  • Higher strength than F5 – 585 MPa tensile
  • Matches A335 P9 & A234 WP9 systems
  • RF, FF & RTJ facings in all classes
  • Full traceability with EN 10204 3.1

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about A182 F9 flanges

F9 contains 8.0–10.0% chromium, 0.90–1.10% molybdenum, 0.50–1.00% silicon and a maximum of 0.15% carbon, with phosphorus and sulphur each limited to 0.030%.

Both are 9Cr-1Mo steels, but F91 is micro-alloyed with vanadium, niobium and nitrogen and has tighter carbon control. This gives F91 much higher creep strength (620 MPa tensile vs 585 MPa for F9), whereas F9 is mainly chosen for corrosion resistance in refinery service.

F9 flanges are paired with ASTM A335 P9 seamless pipes, A213 T9 tubes and A234 WP9 buttweld fittings to keep a uniform 9Cr-1Mo system.

Yes. We machine F9 weld neck and blind flanges with RTJ grooves to ASME B16.5 / B16.20 in Class 600 to 2500, with groove hardness checked to suit the selected ring gasket.
