Product Overview

The premium chrome-moly grade for supercritical service

ASTM A182 F91 is a modified 9% chromium – 1% molybdenum steel micro-alloyed with vanadium, niobium and nitrogen. These additions form fine, stable carbonitride precipitates within a tempered martensitic structure, giving creep-rupture strength far above F22 at temperatures up to about 650°C (1200°F). The result is fittings that tolerate higher steam pressures and temperatures with thinner walls and lower thermal stresses.

Because the properties of F91 depend on precise heat treatment, every fitting we supply is normalized at 1040–1080°C and tempered at 730–800°C as required by ASTM A182. Hardness is checked on 100% of pieces to confirm the 190–248 HBW range, and PMI confirms chromium, molybdenum and vanadium content. Fittings are supplied with EN 10204 3.1 certificates, IBR documentation and third-party inspection on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about A182 F91 forged fittings

F91 gains its high-temperature strength from controlled additions of vanadium, niobium and nitrogen, which form fine carbonitride precipitates in a tempered martensite matrix. This microstructure resists creep far better than conventional Cr-Mo grades such as F11 and F22.

ASTM A182 requires F91 to be normalized at 1040–1080°C (1900–1975°F) and tempered at 730–800°C (1350–1470°F). Correct heat treatment is critical – hardness must fall within 190–248 HBW.

Yes. F91 welds require controlled pre-heat (typically 200–250°C), interpass temperature control and PWHT, commonly in the 730–775°C range as per ASME B31.1 / Section I. Skipping PWHT leaves hard, brittle untempered martensite.

Yes. We supply IBR certified F91 forged fittings along with EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificates, heat treatment charts and hardness reports. Third-party inspection by BV, TÜV, SGS, Lloyd's or EIL can be arranged.
